Dropping the Hands
Printer-friendly version
The best place to start your swing with your hands is just off the back shoulder at about shoulder height. When the hitter drops his hands, he creates an imperfect swing path that makes it hard to get consistent contact. His hands will travel in an upward path to the pitch, rather than a downward path, causing a poor path with the barrel of the bat and result in inconsistent contact.
Quick Fix Drills
- Practice taking strides with your hands up and back at toe touch, no swing.
- Take swings separating stride and swing, paying attention to hands at toe touch. That is, take your stride, pause, make sure hands are up and back, then swing.
- Gradually work into more normal timing swings.
